Meksikolaisen Álvaro Alejandro Lópezin valokuvanäyttely De Natura Libris kuvaa vuorovaikutusta kirjojen kanssa: fyysistä ja abstraktia. Näyttely on esillä Pyhän Henrikin ekumeenisessa Taidekappelissa tammikuussa 2025.
Kirjan aineellisuus tallentuu kuviin sen rakenteiden, tekstuurien ja muotojen ja kautta. Miten koemme kirjan, on viime kädessä yksilöllistä. Kokemukseen vaikuttavat monet kirjan ominaisuudet: sisältö, tekstuurit ja tuoksut, sen herättämät muistot tai yksinkertaisesti sen esteettinen kauneus.
De Natura Libris on kutsu syventää ”kirja”-konseptia niin esineenä kuin olemuksena, jonka jokainen katsoja ja lukija itse tulkitsee sekä luo mielessään.
”Valokuvaus merkitsee minulle eräänlaista suhdetta jokapäiväiseen elämään”, López sanoo.
”Taidekappeli on ihanteellinen paikka esitellä projektiani, rakennus, joka on sinänsä taideteos ja jossa mietiskely, hiljaisuus ja valo kutsuvat syvään tulkintaan ja ymmärrykseen”, hän kuvailee.
Álvaro Alejandro López asuu Mexico Cityssä ja työskenteli kustannusalalla. Hänen valokuvaprojektejaan on ollut esillä Meksikossa, Japanissa, Yhdysvalloissa, Kanadassa, Espanjassa, Belgiassa, Islannissa, Sveitsissä, Saksassa ja Alankomaissa. Hänet valittiin yhdeksi Madridin Arte en la Red Casa de Américan voittajista. ND Awardsissa hän sai kunniamaininnan. Valokuvaajana López on pääosin itseoppinut.

De Natura Libris – Exhibition in the St. Henry´s Ecumenical Art Chapel in Finland in January 2025
Photographic series ”De Natura Libris” portrays the interactions we have with books: physical and abstract.
The corporeity of a book is recorded through its structures, textures, forms and signs of use.
Experiences are ultimately individual, evoked by any number of attributes: the content of a book, its textures and smells, the memories it awakens, or simply the aesthetic beauty of its parts.
De Natura Libris is an invitation to delve into the nooks and crannies of the “book” concept as an object and as a score that each observer and reader must build from the creative proposal.
The art chapel is an ideal place to show my project, a construction that is in itself a work of art and where contemplation, intimacy and light invite a deep reading, which is in itself interpretation and creation.
Photography is a form of relationship with the poiesis of every day. It is a way to conjugate our time with the rhythm of the cloud reader.
Álvaro Alejandro López , Mexico City. Worked in the publishing industry. Recently, he began to exhibit his personal photographic projects. Some have been presented in Mexico, Japan, USA, Canada, Spain, Belgium, Iceland, Switzerland, Germany and the Netherlands. Selected as one of the winners of the Arte en la Red Casa de América, Madrid. Received honorable mention at the ND Awards
“My photographic training has been mainly self-taught. My contact and learning with photography was early, my great-uncle had books, prints, documents and negatives of different authors with whom he worked directly due to his work as a museographer: Edward Weston, Cartier Bresson, Robert Capa, David Seymour, Manuel Álvarez Bravo.”
Oscar Wilde argued that only superficial people do not judge by appearances; observing him redeems the observer who, seduced by the casual coupling of two objects, a letter and a page, a hand and a landscape, a book and a body, for example, believes he understands a message, follows a narrative. The beautiful images of Álvaro Alejandro are an elegant mise en abîme because the narration that we think we see is made up of fragments of other narrations…
